Firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department were honored to be invited to Lettie Dent Elementary School to participate in their Career Day activities. Firefighters set up a display of firefighting and technical rescue equipment as well as demonstrations of donning turnout gear. Firefighters explained the importance of applying one's self in school and how learning basic English, math, and science at a young age is crucial to performing as a firefighter later in life. The students were very intrigued to learn about the different tools carried on Squad 2 and about what its like to be a firefighter. The members in attendance greatly enjoyed their time with some of the younger members of our community and look forward to future events with the schools in our first due.
