At 2127 hours, Engine Company 2, and EMS Stations 29 and 59 were alerted to Budds Creek Road and Mechanicsville Road for the motor vehicle accident reported single vehicle overturned. Chief 2A(Trowbridge), Safety 2(Gray), Rescue Engine 22(Lt. Cox), and Engine 23(Sgt. Blizek) went enroute with ten leaving a third crew in the station. Units arrived to find a van, on its side, with one occupant still in the vehicle. Rescue Engine 22 went to work stabilizing the vehicle, pulling a protection handline and sizing up the scene. Crews began with removing the windshield, as the driver was standing in the vehicle. This did not allow enough room for crews to remove the operator from the vehicle. A roof flap was performed in order for the driver to be removed. After an assessment and consult to the trauma center, EMS personnel requested a medevac, category "Charlie", priority two for the patient as he was unrestained in the rollover accident. Engine 23 handled the landing zone while Rescue Engine 22 cleared to respond to a first due box alarm on Mechanicsville Road. Chief 2A held the "Budds Creek Command" and units operated on the scene for just over an hour. |
